About us

One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train.

A modern Martial Art

Aikido is a modern martial art developed from centuries-old Japanese techniques for self-defense. It is a study of movement, much like yoga or dance, except that it occurs in the context of self-defense. It is similar to judo, as effective, but not as combative.

Training enables the practitioner to develop an integrated movement pattern that promotes health as well as the ability to resolve conflict safely and effectively.

A paradigm of conflict resolution

Aikido is a paradigm of conflict resolution. While philosophical discussion is not emphasized during training, the very nature of the physical system that we train is a reflection of a philosophy of conflict resolution: Standing calm in the face of aggression and taking responsibility not only for oneself but also for the aggressor. Aikido training encompasses mind, body, and spirit.

Practice is engaging and challenging. It is highly technical, but men, women, and children of all ages can practice Aikido and become accomplished. Because Aikido is a martial art of conflict resolution rather than punching or kicking, it is a fantastic environment for children.

A young and growing club

We are young but steadily growing club with enthusiasm to introduce Aikido to as many people as possible. We offer two training sessions a week and encourage you to take part in courses across the country. As in many disciplines, you learn the most in Aikido if you learn from different teachers.

It is our aim to provide a productive environment for both Chinese training partners and expats alike. Aikido should be open to all sexes, ages and all kinds of people. We therefore strongly encourage women to take part in our training. Also, those who come with some kind of Aikido experience to us are very welcome whether you have trained it for a month or a couple of years.

Next to the regular training sessions in the dojo (gymn), we also want to provide lots of opportunities for people to socialize.

Our club is located in Dong Chuan Rd., Shanghai. It provides 150 sqm. of training space. You are welcome to visit us to watch a class or to learn more about our training and community.
